Visited since 1807, the Caves of La Balme are located in Isère (France), at 40 minutes from Lyon, in the small village of La Balme-les-Grottes

Labyrinths, underground lake, amphitheater of rimstone dams (or gours), stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, draperies... The Caves of La Balme are a magic and mysterious place where emotions and sensations are growing up over the visit !

Take some time to discover the underground world’s beauties and mysteries at your own pace !
You will walk 1 kilometer of subterranean networks during about 75 minutes self-guided tour.
* Guided tours for general public are available on conditions. Guided tours for groups (+5 people) are available all year long (except January) only on reservation.

23 species* have been staying at the Caves of La Balme on a temporary or full time basis since the 50's.
The Caves of La Balme are known as the place welcoming the greatest number of bat species in Rhône-Alpes (France).
Maybe will you get the chance to watch some of them during your next visit...

Learn also more about other species of animals: cave invertebrates (amphipoda called Niphargus...) and cave birds as Western Jackdaw, Swift, Crag Martin, Tawny Owl, Eurasian Eagle-Owl...
